About me
Hello, I’m Ian
I’ve been teaching physics for 20 years in a range of schools and I’m a head of department. I’m also an examiner and author for two exam boards, which gives me a detailed understanding of how exams are written and marked – insight I share with every student I tutor.
Alongside teaching, I’ve been tutoring for 20 years, and online for the last 8. I enjoy helping students turn confusion into confidence, whether they’re aiming to secure a pass or reach the very top grades.

FAQs
Questions parents often ask
How do online lessons work?
Lessons are live and one-to-one over a video call, using a shared digital whiteboard so we can work through problems together. The student just needs a computer or tablet with a reliable internet connection, a webcam and a microphone.
How much do lessons cost?
Lessons are £70 per hour for both GCSE and A-level. Once we’ve agreed lessons, you can pay securely online by card.
Which exam boards do you cover?
I tutor GCSE and A-level Physics for the main UK exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel (Pearson), OCR and WJEC/Eduqas. If you’re not sure which board the student is studying, their school can tell you – or I can help you find out.
How often should lessons be?
Most students have one lesson a week, which builds steady progress. Some choose more frequent lessons in the run-up to exams. We can agree whatever suits the student best.
Are you DBS checked?
Yes. I’m a fully qualified teacher and head of department, and I am DBS checked.
